We combine music, art, movement and more!
Calgary’s Choice for the Working Parent
Founded in 2004, Active Learning Programs is a professional school that now offers kindergarten care and before- and after-school care. We are Calgary’s preferred choice for the working parent. Now you don’t have to choose between preschool and daycare. You can have the best of both.
Madame McKinney is our owner, administrator and generally the one who makes it all happen! As a mother looking to place her son into a preschool that offered a French immersion education program, Trisha discovered a void in Calgary for children to receive French instruction that were not themselves Francophone. This inspired her to collaborate with a French immersion kindergarten teacher to design a program that would fully prep a student for a bilingual education. She styled her preschool after her main passions: music, dance and art. Being a mother herself (with children who attend our program), she feels that young children are freshest in the morning and therefore will absorb the music and movement sections of our curriculum better than in evening programs that eat into family time.
Andrea Frohlick is the co-creator of the Advanced Program and Beginner Program. She graduated with a Bachelor of French education from the University of Regina. Her passion for the French language was first developed while living and studying in Paris, the City of Lights. She later went on to get a North American perspective of the French culture while pursuing her studies in Quebec City. At the time of her input, she had taught kindergarten and grades 1 and 2 for the past 7 years in Calgary. Her firm belief is that children who learn a second language at an early age will benefit greatly throughout their lives.
Smiles that Greet You Every Day
In addition to being one of our founders, Trisha is also an instructor. She has over 15 years of experience educating children both scholastically and musically. She has been involved in mentoring and tutoring programs, as well as handi-capable swim, religious schools, children’s chorus, and weekly sports programs. Trisha feels that there is a need to properly prepare today’s youth for the education system, so that everyone, regardless of their scholastic predispositions, can reach their full potential.
Madame Carter comes to us from the Clearwater Academy as the Pre-K teacher. She has a strong background in preschools and has over 10 years' experience as a preschool director. She possesses a Bachelor of Education, Child Care certification III and CPR certification. Eileen’s instruction is through activity based methods. She expands the Alberta Curriculum with dance, singing, gym, games, puppetry and countless creative materials. Eileen is the proud mother of 4 children and 1 adorable grandson. Eileen was a member of the University of Manitoba gymnastics team and a Canadian National judge. As a note of interest, her husband Keith was on the Canadian Gymnastics Team and competed at the 1976 Olympics. Madame Carter is very comfortable in a French bilingual environment from her years of living in Winnipeg.
